Offbeat Brewing Company is a small collective of like-minded people who believe that well-crafted beer, untethered art, and the communities that support them are what make life worth living. Founded by Tom and Sarah Garcia in 2011, this is a brewery whose identity doesn’t just stop at great beer. Embracing the idea that brewing is an art form, we at Offbeat strive to support the artists around us, regardless of medium. We believe that this company is our chance to bring a little beauty into the world, to take advantage of the rich, creative landscape laid out for us by our friends and neighbors and create an environment in and around the brewery that fosters the kind of adventurous thinking which makes our humanity so unique.

Calling Escondido home was not a hard decision. Tom and Sarah are both life-long residents, and supporting the community that raised them seemed a natural choice. A long search for the right building brought them to the Pacific Oaks Place location, and, bringing friend and fellow Escondido resident Dan Reed on board to help with marketing and tasting room design, they began a five-month, largely DIY buildout with help from their family and friends. Standing in the middle of the bright, art-filled brewery, it’s easy to feel the love, hard work, and attention that went in to it. Using reclaimed pallet wood, pieces of old furniture, and discarded hardwood floors and employing the brilliant, artistic minds of their friends, they have created a brewery and tasting room that is truly different, both in appearance and ethos.

…and, oh yeah, the beer! President and Brewmaster Tom Garcia’s extensive background in craft beer comes from years of brewing, lab work, and supervising the cellar at Stone Brewing Company as well as years of consulting for up-and-coming breweries. His love of process engineering and chemistry have given him MacGyver-like skills when it comes to making beer. From creating low ABV session beers with tons of flavor and body, to crafting big, experimental ales that employ the local flora in their recipes, Tom is a lover of both the traditional and the experimental, and he has created beer that is every bit as exciting as the environment that surrounds it. He also probably wouldn’t tell you any of that himself, but he’s not writing this, now, is he?

So. Great beer. Brilliant artwork. Positive environment. Good people. You get the idea, right? We’d love if you’d be part of this with us, and hope to see you in the tasting room soon!
