The original manufacturing facility known as San Diego Brewing Company opened in 1896 with much fanfare. A. E. Horton, the father of San Diego, referred to the Brewery as the most important industrial enterprise since he founded the town. It was the largest manufacturing enterprise in the county.

The brew house held a 25 horse power engine which operated the elevator, barley mill, mash tun and other apparatus. The mash tun could easily give shelter to twenty five men! The brewery’s fermenting cellar was filled with great tanks full of amber fluid, foaming and sparkling. The capacity of the plant was 75,000 barrels.

San Diego Brewing Company delivered their product to all parts of the city and county in bottles or in barrels. Their beers were said to “sparkle like nectar”. Sadly the company was removed from 32nd Street by the Navy in 1942 and replaced by a base for the Pacific Fleet.

Today the new San Diego Brewing Company hopes to carry on the tradition that was started so long ago. Along with an assortment of fresh beers brewed on the premises, San Diego Brewing Company offers fifty taps of beer every day, providing a brew to satisfy each and everyone.

El \’Hefe\’weizen

A wheat beer brewed with Bavarian yeast, this beer has the classic characteristics of a European Hefeweizen such as clove and banana aroma. Served unfiltered this beer will quench your thirst on those hot summer days.

Grantville Gold

Grantville (as this area was once known) Gold is one of our lighter house beers, but by no means a light beer. This pale gold beer is crisp and refreshing with a clean hop finish and is a great beer for newcomers to craft-brewed beers.

Hopnotic

This IPA (India Pale Ale) is by far our hoppiest brew. At 7.5% alcohol, this triple dry-hopped ale is full bodied and has an aggressive hop flavor with distinct citrus undertones. This beer is perfect for all you hop heads out there! (You know who you are!)

San Diego Amber

Our signature beer and our best seller, this beer has started more meals and conversations than any other at the Brewing Company! This red ale is a well-balanced beer, not too sweet and not too hoppy with a beautiful copper color and an extremely smooth finish.

Old Town Nut Brown

A dark smooth ale that is rich and satisfying. This beer has hints of caramel and roasted malts, which are accompanied with a combination of Willamette and Cascade hops. The best brown ale you\’ll ever try!

Choco-Latte

With more substance and roast than our Nut Brown, this creamy porter is nitro-poured and has nice hints of coffee and dark chocolate. This ale is smooooooth and so very drinkable!

Admiral Bakers Best

Gold in color, this dry-hopped ale has a depth of hop bitterness. It is characterized by low carbonation and a slightly warmer temperature because of our authentic beer engines from which it is served.

Seasonal Ales

We are proud to serve a wonderful variety of seasonal ales, such as Monster Mash and Old 395. Be sure to check our Featured Beers section to see what\’s brewing!
